Marketing Virtual Assistant Services: What They Can Take Off Your Plate

Last updated . Every number on this page was checked October 2, 2026.

Marketing virtual assistant services give you a remote person who handles the repeat tasks in your marketing. Think of loading posts into a scheduling tool, formatting a newsletter, or fixing the text on a web page. One assistant fits tasks that follow steps you can write down. Work that takes a trained skill, such as design, video or a funnel build, fits a specialist or a team.

This page is a plain reading of the rules. It isn't legal or tax advice.

What are marketing virtual assistant services?

Marketing virtual assistant services are a way to hand the routine side of your marketing to a remote person. You get one in two ways. You can bring on one assistant yourself, or you can buy a service that supplies the person and manages them.

In both cases you still decide what the marketing says and who it's for. The assistant carries out the tasks.

If you bring on one assistant yourself, that person can be your contractor or your employee. The label isn't yours to pick. The IRS has a test for it, and so does the Texas Workforce Commission. For what changes with each, see independent contractor vs employee. Not legal or tax advice. Ask your accountant.

For what a service is and how to pick one, see virtual assistant services. For what it costs, see virtual assistant cost.

Which marketing tasks can a virtual assistant take on?

A virtual assistant can take on marketing tasks that repeat and that follow steps you can write down. The table sorts common marketing tasks by who fits each one.

Table: Twelve marketing tasks, sorted by who fits each one.
Marketing task Who fits Why
Loading approved posts into a scheduling tool One assistant The steps are the same each time
Formatting and sending a newsletter you wrote One assistant It follows a template
Swapping text or images on a web page One assistant The change is small and clear
Keeping the contact list tidy One assistant It follows rules you set
Pulling the monthly numbers into a report One assistant The sources are the same each month
Writing blog posts or website pages A specialist It takes a writer
Making ad graphics, social media graphics or a lead magnet A specialist It takes a designer
Editing video A specialist It takes a video editor
Building an email sequence, a funnel or a landing page A specialist or a team It takes design and build skills together
Setting up a CRM, a pipeline or an automation A specialist or a team It takes technical setup
Several of the jobs above in the same month A team It takes more than one skill at once
Strategy, and decisions on ad spend You, or a strategist These are decisions, and the rest is production

This sorting is a plain guide. Some assistants have a specialist's skill, so ask for samples of the exact task before you hand it over.

One rule stays with you when you hand off email. The Federal Trade Commission says the CAN-SPAM Act doesn't apply just to bulk email. It covers all commercial messages. The FTC also says that even if you hire another company to handle your email marketing, you can't contract away your legal responsibility to comply with the law. Its guide says each separate email in violation is subject to penalties of up to $53,088 (FTC guide, read October 2, 2026). The guide's own advice is to monitor what others are doing on your behalf. So read what goes out under your name, whoever presses send. This isn't legal advice. Ask a lawyer how the rule applies to your emails.

For every kind of task, see what does a virtual assistant do.

Which marketing tasks need a specialist or a team?

A marketing task needs a specialist when it takes a trained skill, such as writing, design, video editing or technical setup. It needs a team when you need several of those skills in the same month.

DeskTeam360, the company that runs this site, is one such team. Its marketing work covers these areas:

  • Email and funnels. It builds and sends email campaigns, sequences, funnels and landing pages. The plan covers the build. You bring the words, or copywriting is an add-on.
  • CRM and automation. CRM setup, pipelines, workflows and integrations in tools such as GoHighLevel, HubSpot, Zapier and Make.
  • Social media content. It makes your social media content and delivers it ready to schedule.
  • SEO and content writing. For agencies, DeskTeam360 does SEO and content writing under the agency's brand. Its site says on-page SEO is covered, and link building and outreach aren't.
  • Graphic design. Ad creatives, social media graphics, and ebooks and lead magnets.
  • Web work. Website work, from a quick page update to a full rebuild.

Some marketing work is outside its scope: sales copy and ad copy, strategy and coaching, managing ad spend, replies to comments and messages, and community management.

If your marketing work needs more than one skill, you can find out on a call with DeskTeam360 whether a team fits.

Is a marketing virtual assistant right for an agency?

A marketing virtual assistant is right for an agency when the work you want to hand off is routine, and someone has time to assign it and check it. It's a poor fit when client work calls for design, web builds and video in the same week, because that's several skilled jobs at once.

Table: When one assistant fits an agency, and when a team does.
One assistant fits when A team fits when
The steps You can write the steps for each task The work changes from client to client
The skills The work takes one skill, or none that's trained The work takes several trained skills in the same month
Who checks the work You or a manager on your side has time each week You want the checking done before the work reaches you
The volume The routine tasks fill the hours you'd buy There are more kinds of work than one person can cover

One agency's story shows the second column. First Call Digital Agency sells ads, social media, web work, design and print, mostly to IT service firms. It had been sending web work and some graphics to another outside agency, and it used several vendors. Delivery times and quality kept changing. With DeskTeam360, it sends a ticket and a video that explains each task, across many kinds of work. In its case study, the agency says delivery became steady.
